Welcome to South Vale East!
Hello everyone!
Once you arrive in South Vale East, your quest to find Mary begins. Your journey starts at the bulletin board on Sanders St. From there, cross the street to the building marked on your map, which is the Florist Shop. Here, on the sales counter, you’ll notice a note addressed to the shop owner. It recounts a peculiar interaction between a salesperson and a customer who ordered a mixed bouquet—a symbol of bad luck. The note mentions that the customer plans to return for it later, but there’s a chance the salesperson won’t be around, which is why the note exists.
As you explore the Florist Shop, don’t forget to exit through the west entrance. Upon approaching the door, you might catch a glimpse of something scurrying across the floor, alongside a disturbing trail that resembles blood. This trail leads into the parking lot. As you navigate your surroundings, remember that a fence blocks your left side, leaving you with no choice but to head back to Sanders St on your right.
Although the Florist Shop is the only door you can open in South Vale East, be sure to interact with every door you encounter—eventually, you’ll unlock an achievement for your efforts. Besides the unsettling bloodstains on Lindsey St, there are several notable points of interest to explore.
First, venture down Sanders St to reach Gonzales Restaurant. James will remark with a curious “Huh,” though the significance of this moment remains a mystery for now. After attempting to open the restaurant door, notice that a red X appears on the map over the establishment.
Next, make your way to the café located at the corner of Katz and Lindsey Streets. You can peer through a crack in the front door to catch a glimpse inside, revealing an open door along Katz St—a clue for the observant.
Continuing your exploration up Lindsey St, a cutscene will unfold halfway through, giving you your first chilling sight of the armless monsters that inhabit this area. On your right, you’ll find a locked gate on Vachss Road adorned with a warning sign: “Do Not Enter: Area closed off due to an accident. Trespassing may lead to injury or death.” Across the road stands a monument that reads:
Remains of ………….Swamp
The (acres)……..ers of land surrounding this monument was originally a swamp but later filled in. It was once dubbed the Blood Swamp due to the water used for washing execution tools being poured into it. Many locals claim to have seen ghostly apparitions in the vicinity. (Brackets indicate where information is missing or speculated.)
Finally, reach the end of Lindsey St, where you’ll discover that the road has washed away. James will comment, “What’s happened to this town?”
As you backtrack down Lindsey St, keep an eye on the house to your right. Between the third and fourth houses, you’ll find a broken gate. Other clues in this area include a No Parking sign on the sidewalk and another patch of blood near the houses. The broken gate grants you access to the backyards of the houses along the west side of Lindsey St, ultimately leading you past the road washout.
In the last backyard, you’ll find several garages. The left one features a hole in the bottom of the garage door. You’ll receive a notification to “look around for objects marked with white cloths. Those signify interactable items or paths.” Approach the garage door, and you’ll be prompted to press E to crawl through. After crawling inside, you’ll discover that the door collapses behind you, providing an alternative exit.
Inside, you’ll find a crack in the back wall that leads to a bedroom complete with a save point. Be sure to press E to squeeze through the crack into the room. This is a perfect spot to save your progress before proceeding further.
