South Vale East
Hello everybody, Welcome!
Our starting point for this one is the third floor of the Saul St. apartments. In the last post, we retrieved a plastic button with the number 2 on it from the hole in the bathroom wall. That left one door to open that’s beside the bathroom. When James interacts with the door, a cutscene starts where he grabs the handle and tries to push the door open. It only opens a little before hitting something on the inside, and James backs away as if it smells horrible. Not only that, but his hand has some black goo on it, and that’s where the cutscene ends. There’s an open doorway at the side of the building that leads to the back deck and from there down into a fenced-in garbage station. From here, I had to backtrack back into the apartment because I missed going into one room on the second floor. This room is to the right of the stairs on the left with an open return air vent that you can crawl through. Inside is a note from the tenant saying, “I’m certain now, it’s coming from that apartment upstairs. I keep telling them, why won’t they do something? It’s unbearable. I can feel it seeping into my skin, pushing itself into my lungs.”
Back outside, go right and continue all the way till you reach a red brick building. This will be Neely St. and just up the street on the right is Happy Burger. Duck into there before continuing to Neely’s Bar. There are a couple of entry points, one on the front and one on the left side. There’s a health drink on the table to the left of the front entry point. A closer look will turn up a syringe in the back storage room, but you’ll have to fight two of the freaks on legs. There’s a hole in the floor in the kitchen same as the one in the apartment that leads to the storage room; on the desk to the left of the door is the syringe.
Back outside, continue up Neely heading north to Neely’s Bar on the right. Inside is a manual save point, a jukebox, and a note on the counter. The note tells the story of somebody trying to destroy the jukebox; it mentions three locations: Groovy Music, Saul St. apartments, and the pharmacy. After you read the note, look at your map for new information, and you’ll find that Groovy Music up the street has been circled. Interact with the jukebox and pick up the broken piece of record. You’ll need four things before you return: a jukebox coin that can be found in the Texan Cafe cash register, a jukebox button that can be found in the Saul St. apartment third floor bathroom , the two halves of the broken record—one from the bar and one from Groovy Music—and lastly, glue that’s also at Groovy Music. All this will be in the next post. For now, there’s a manual save, so it’s a good place to stop and get ready to go back out into the freak-infested streets of South Vale East.
